This is one of the transcribed articles of my Sunday Bible Sharing during our cottage prayer meeting way back 2007. I forgot the exact date, I just recovered the notes I made for this sharing recently.
Our readings this Sunday focus on two themes.First, trust in God. In the first reading, its about Abraham trusting God to give him a son despite his age.
Abraham was 86 years old when he begot Ishmael. The Bible says he was too old. Imagine life at 86.
What’s more? Abraham was 99 years old when he begot Isaac. Ninety nine years old? Tigang na tigang ka na niyan. Again, the Bible says, he was too old.
But then, there is trust, Abraham trusted on God’s promises.
I remember when I was a child, may nagustuhan akong laruang jeep, malaki-laking laruan, parang apo sa tuhod ng totoong jeep. I asked a favor from my parents, that if they can afford it, they buy it for me. You know,a child does not know much about finding means. But it took so long for my parents to buy it for me.
After those times, mahal din pala nila ako.
Ngayon ko lang nalaman, that we need to trust, hindi rin tayo matitiis ng magulang natin.
Have you experienced putting trust on someone?
But then it almost took 2 years, still you haven’t had that cellphone.
We simply have to trust them!
In His time
He makes all things beautiful
And then there is faith…
What is faith according to the Bible?
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
It’s like being blind, but you believe with all your heart that indeed there is a sun that shines so brightly.
It’s like being behind enemy lines but you believe with all your heart that tomorrow you’ll still be alive.
From trust grumabe, naging faith…
Kaya nga the most essential requirement for salvation is to believe, to have faith.
Yon, ang unang-unang gawin natin para maligtas.
Kahit gaano kalaki ang iyong nagawa, you were able to carve a statue as big as The Liberty all by yourself, but without faith in God, hindi ka pa rin magiging satisfied sa achievements mo, may kulang pa rin kung wala kang Dios.
Who among you here knows Shutruk Nahhunte? Let me quote you words by him.
I am Shutruk Nahunte, King of Anshand and Susa, Sovereign of the land of Elam. I destroyed Sippar, took the stele of Naram-Sin, and brought it back to Elam, where I erected it as an offering to my god. Shutruk Nahunte – 1158 B.C.
Shutruk amassed an empire that included most of Mesopotamia and western Iran. One man, great achievement…Pero bakit wala kang maririnig ni makikitang Shutruk Nahhunte in history books?
Because “great ambition and conquest without contribution is without significance.”
Great ambition and achievement without faith in God is without significance.
“Lord, isa akong kilalang engineer, nagtapos sa Harvard I was able to construct 10 cathedrals,20 seminaries, 30 orphanages. But why is it na wala ang pangalan ko sa Aklat ng Buhay? Napaka-unfair mo naman!!!”
Maybe God would reply this way,
“But son, achievements without faith in me is without significance.”
This line of Bro. Eli Soriano is one of my favorites,
It’s not too late to make amends, that is what l will do, and that is what we will do.
Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
To God be the glory!!!
