Jesus and the Sword

This was the comment of balqani in my post about Father Zakaria Boutros.

If you think so quinzo ,we’re practicing what the book of zakaria is saying which is the bible:
Deu 17:12 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.” (Exodus 15:3

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.” (Matthew 10:34-37).
there is more and more quinzo just come to paltalk and i will show you who are the true terrorists. by the way who invented the atomic bomb is it muslims or non muslims?
is nelson mandela a terrorist?

I would like to answer his comments one by one. My answer is written in bold.

If you think so quinzo, we’re practicing what the book of Zakaria is saying which is the Bible:

I thought Muslims consider the Bible as an erroneous book instead of divine. But now you are practicing what it says.

Deu 17:12 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die:and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

Take note of this phrase, and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel. The  aim is to put away the evil, however those extremists who strap bombs in their bodies and blew themselves in the midst of the crowd and killing innocent people are not putting away evil, they are creating evil instead.

The Lord is a man of war: the LORD is his name.” (Exodus 15:3)

It was Moses who said that and the reason why he said so was because of the great wonders God had done for Israel when he set them free from Egyptian slavery. When the Israelites left Egypt, they didn’t fight a single battle themselves; it was God who fought for them single handedly. It was the exigency of the time due to Israel’s hostile neighbors who are fixated on nothing less than her destruction. However, later in Exodus  20, God  gave them the Ten Commandments and one of the commandments says, “Thou shalt not murder.” The verse you use does not give  extremists the license to bomb airports, buses, markets, churches, etc.  as it frequently happen here in the Philippines. These innocent people were not even in an act of war, and in fact the Philippines is not at war against any Islamic nations and yet were suffering these kind of evils because as you said you are following what the Bible says. I just pray you followed it rightly.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.”(Matthew 10:34-37)

I wish you understood more the implications of this verse rather than stick to the word “sword”. There is a parallel verse of Matthew 10 and it can be found in Luke 12:49-53

I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism* to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! 51 Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; 52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father* against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law. (Luke 12:49-53)

Now take note that in Matthew it uses the word sword but in the parallel verse found in Luke it uses the word division. So the real meaning of the word sword there is division. This is the kind of division meant when someone who professes the Christian faith is being disowned and persecuted by nothing less than his family. This was what happened during the early years of Christianity when saints were martyred by their own families just like the story of St. Barbara. In fact, it’s the same with what happened to Abdul Rahman, a Muslim convert to Catholicism who was disowned, delivered to the police by nothing less than his family. That’s the kind of sword that Jesus talks about. Christians should stand for their faith even if their own family is against it.

There is more and more quinzo just come to paltalk and I will show you who are the true terrorists. By the way who invented the atomic bomb is it muslims or non-muslims?

Albert Einstein was the one who invented the atomic bomb. For three years, young Einstein practiced Catholicism but became indifferent to it in the later part of his life. He is not a Christian.

Is Nelson Mandela a terrorist?

He is not.
